Darin Johnson is the author of the book "Digital Coup: The Conspiracy to Thwart Global Democracy." He is Professor of Law at Howard University School of Law, where he has been voted faculty member of the year by students. He attended Yale College on a military scholarship and received his law degree from Harvard Law School, where he was awarded the Kaufman public interest award and the Heyman public service fellowship. Immediately following law school, he served as an Honors attorney in the Office of the General Counsel to the Secretary of the Army at the Pentagon. He received several awards for his work and completed his military service with the rank of Captain.Following the Pentagon, he continued to practice law as an attorney in the Legal Adviser’s Office at the U.S. Department of State. In this capacity, he advised on a wide range of international issues involving political-military, United Nations and multilateral matters. He also spent a year as the Legal Adviser to the U.S. Embassy in Baghdad during the Iraq War. Additionally, he served in the Office of the White House Counsel under President Obama. After returning to the State Department, Professor Johnson served as Chief of Staff to the Special Coordinator for Middle East Transitions, and he oversaw an office responsible for coordinating U.S. foreign assistance to politically transitioning countries in the Middle East and North Africa following the Arab Spring uprisings. He received several Departmental honors for his work.Professor Johnson has advised on peace processes, transitional justice and human rights matters in the Middle East and Africa. Professor Johnson's research interests include transitional justice, international law, and the balance between human rights and national security law and policy in the United States and globally.He is a frequent media commentator on matters of international law, national security, foreign affairs and human rights.Get in touch!
